After the revision of one of the valves of the gas circulation system at the HotBENT experiment, on Sept. 16th 2021 the gas monitoring of all sampling ports within the drift was launched. This will allow observation of possible changes in the gas composition even during the early stages of the experiment.
Entracers’ miniRUEDI is here!
After a couple of months Entracer’s first portable membrane inlet mass spectrometer system (aka miniRUEDI) is ready to determine gas concentrations in the environment. A few applications that exemplify the flexibility of this instrument:
- Long-term monitoring of the gas composition in a trial run for radioactive waste disposal (Tomonaga et al., 2019, Appl. Geochem.)
- Targeting the gas-clay interactions in laboratory trials (Giroud et al., 2018, Appl. Geochem.)
- Determine changes in the noble-gas composition at CO2 capture plants (Weber et al., 2021, Int. J. Greenh. Gas Con.)

Sampling at HotBENT
On Jun. 24th/25th 2021 Entracers performed the first gas sampling in the HotBENT experiment at the Grimsel Test Site.
Gas sampling at the Mont Terri URL
Between April 8th and April 9th 2021 Entracers GmbH collected gas samples from the Full-scale Emplacement (FE) experiment located in the Mont Terri Underground Rock Laboratory.
Entracers GmbH had the opportunity to work on the gas monitoring of the HotBENT experiment at the Grimsel Test Site managed by Nagra. A few impressions can be found below.
A method that extends the miniRUEDI peak-height comparison has been developed in order to resolve interferences resulting from overlapping ion currents of multiple species. Here the details on the publication:
